oday, Ford Motor Company produces cars under several names including Lincoln and Mercury in the United States. In 1958, Ford introduced a new marque, the Edsel, but poor sales led to discontinuation in 1960. Then, in 1985, the Merkur brand was introduced to the market Ford of Europe in the United States; it met the same fate in 1989.

Ford's major manufacturing operations in Canada, Mexico, United Kingdom, Germany, Turkey, Brazil, Argentina, Australia, People's Republic of China, and several other countries, including South Africa where, following divestment during apartheid, once again a subsidiary. Ford also has a cooperation agreement with Russia's GAZ car.

Ford acquired the British sports car maker Aston Martin in 1989, but sold it on March 12, 2007, retain a small minority stake, and Volvo Cars Sweden. In November 2008 it was 33.4% controlling interest in Mazda cut from Japan, with 13.4% non-controlling interest. This shares the United States joint venture plant in Flat Rock, Michigan called Auto Alliance with Mazda. Has turned its parts division under the name Visteon.

Ford sold the United Kingdom-based Jaguar and Land Rover brands company and Tata Motors of India in March 2008.

Also in 2008, Ford Motor in negotiations with Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation to sell the Volvo car division.

Ford's FoMoCo parts division sells aftermarket parts under the Motorcraft brand name.

Ford's non-manufacturing operations include organizations such as the automotive finance operation Ford Motor Company Credit. Ford also sponsors various activities and sports facilities across the U.S., especially the Ford Center in downtown Oklahoma City and Ford Field in downtown Detroit.

Overall, Ford Motor Company controls the following operational car marques: Ford, Lincoln, Mercury, and Volvo Cars.

In 2008 the Lincoln-Mercury brand was dropped on American Customer Satisfaction Index for the list of 83, from 86 in 2007.

The Ford Motor Company is an American multinational company based in Dearborn, Michigan, a suburb of Detroit. Car maker founded by Henry Ford and was founded on June 16, 1903. In addition to Ford, Lincoln and Mercury brand, Ford also has Sweden's Volvo Car, and a small share of the Japanese Mazda and Aston Martin of England. Ford's former UK subsidiaries Jaguar and Land Rover were sold to Tata Motors of India in March 2008.

Ford introduced methods for large-scale large-scale automobile manufacturing and workforce management manufacturing engineered using complex sequences are indicated by moving assembly line. Henry Ford's methods came to be known throughout the world as Fordism by 1914.

Ford is currently the fourth largest car in the world based on the number of vehicles sold each year, just behind the Volkswagen. In 2008, Ford produced 5532 million cars and employs approximately 213,000 employees in around 90 factories and facilities around the world.
